Clemson Starts Strong and Upsets Coastal Carolina

Clemson starts off strong and holds their ground as they win their fifth straight game. They take game one of a home-and-home series against Coastal Carolina 8-5.

Coastal started off the first with Wood leading off with a double and would eventually score on a fly out for Coastal to take an early 1-0 lead. Then Clemson’s bats came to play.  Hall lead things off with a single before Davidson gave everyone some deja vu with a two run bomb as the Tigers took the lead. But the pain didn’t stop there for Coastal. In fact, Clemson’s first four batters each had a hit before Sharpe ended the streak with a fly out to score Byrd from third. Hackinberg had to throw his name into the hat with a three run bomb of his own to make the lead 6-1 to end the inning. Coastal Carolina came back in the second to score three, but after that inning it seemed that Clemson would erase any advantage Coastal would try to get. This included Jones coming in to relieve Weatherly of his pitching duties in the top of the sixth to leave the bases loaded. That would prove to be the last ditch effort from Coastal as they fall to the Tigers 8-5.

Owen Giffith earns his first victory of the season with his three innings of relief. The Chanticleers' starter, Scott Kobos, earns his second loss of the season. It was also another amazing day for Logan Davidson with him going 3-4 with a homerun and two RBIs.

Clemson improves to 13-4 on the season. They will take their five game winning streak on the line when Notre Dame, 5-9 on the season and 2-1 in ACC play, comes into town to play the Tigers.
