Cole's Record:

2019 Overall: 56-14

Last Week: 10-2

High School Football Week 7:

Spartanburg at Boiling Springs: Both the Vikings & the Bulldogs are 2-4 on the season, and we often over-use the term "must-win", but this week is a must-win for both teams. These two squads have struggled this season and both are looking for a season-saving victory on Friday night. October 17th, 2014 was the last time Spartanburg defeated Boiling Springs. Rick Tate is looking to get his 6th straight win over Chris Miller this Friday. This matchup is so intriguing as both teams have similar struggles. When looking at the Bulldogs, they were actually able to move the ball and score last week vs Mauldin without Charles McFadden. However, the turnovers ended up costing the Bulldogs. If Boiling Springs continues to turn the ball over, I think Spartanburg will take advantage and pull out the win. Another area these two teams are similar is special teams. Both the Bulldogs & Vikings have solid kickers who can put points on the board Friday night. Spartanburg leaned on the JR QB in Seth Smith last week versus Dorman, but the Vikings offense has been suspect. This is one of the toughest games to pick.

Cole's Pick: Boiling Springs 20, Spartanburg 17

Gaffney at Dorman: One of the biggest games in Spartanburg County takes place at Cavalier Stadium on Friday. Dorman is unbeaten, Gaffney comes in with two losses. Who is more battle tested? I would say Gaffney, but I think Dorman is the more talented team and talent will out weigh anything else on Friday. I like this game to be very competitive throughout. Gaffney will have to lean in large part on their two stud running backs; Kelvin Kirby & Tyler Smith. If the Indians get Stan Ellis back, that will be huge. Dorman comes into this game absolutely rolling. I do think the Cavaliers will face adversity Friday, but it will not be too much to overcome.

Cole's Pick: Dorman 42, Gaffney 38

Byrnes at Mauldin: This game will be closer than most people think. Mauldin is a very talented football team that is coming into this game with much confidence. They defeated Boiling Springs last week and had Gaffney on the ropes several weeks back. Byrnes comes into this game banged up, and will not have their full arsenal. The Rebels defense has been so effecient this season, I expect that to continue on Friday and that defense will be the reason the Rebels pull out the victory.

Cole's Pick: Byrnes 38, Mauldin 28

Travelers Rest at Greer: Can the Yellowjackets of Greer finally get a win we have all been hoping for to get their season back on track? It will be tough this week as Greer takes on Travelers Rest. The Devil Dogs have been playing so solid this season, coming into this game with only one loss. I have picked Greer several times this year for them to lose and this one is a tough one to pick. Can the "youth" of Greer put it all together on Friday to beat a very solid TR team? The Devil Dogs have more of an identity on offense, and that is why I am leaning Travelers Rest.

Cole's Pick: Travelers Rest 35, Greer 21

Chesnee at Broome: Chesnee has really improved as the season has progressed. Broome has not. The Centurion defense is cause for concern this week as Clay Lewis's offense has started to figure things out. I think Broome will be competitive in this game, but the struggles continue for Fleming's squad. Chesnee has cut out some turnovers and really relied on the Eagle offensive line as of late which has been very solid. I like Chesnee to win on Friday.

Cole's Pick: Chesnee 34, Broome 20

Chapman at Carolina: Carolina is a much improved team, but the test is very tough this week as Mark Hodge & the Chapman Panthers are coming to town. Carolina better give Chapman wrong directions, because if the Panthers show up on the same route they have all season, this game will be over by halftime. Colasurdo & the Panthers win big.

Cole's Pick: Chapman 54, Carolina 21

Landrum at St. Joesph’s: Jon Wheeler's squad in Greenville comes into this game 5-1 on the season, only losing to Southside Christian. Jason Farmer's Cardinals have been very good as of late as well, but this may be Landrum's toughest test yet. Landrum has been very effecient on offense led by Cooper Gentry, but St. Josephs is much better than the Cardinals last few opponets. However, the Cardinals are coming off of a BYE as St. Joesph's is coming off of a loss, so Landrum has had an extra week to prepare for this game.

Cole's Pick: St. Joesph's 35, Landrum 21

Laurens at Woodmont: This is a very big game in this region and Woodmont comes into this game with much confidence. Chris Liner & the Raiders are also coming into this game with a great start to their season. However, this is their toughest test of the season since the Hillcrest game, their only loss. I like Jet Turner's squad to continue their streak.

Cole's Pick: Woodmont 28, Laurens 21

Hillcrest at Riverside: Hillcrest should win comfortably. Riverside is struggling big time.

Cole's Pick: Hillcrest 28, Riverside 0

Blue Ridge at Greenville: Blue Ridge comes into this game 3-3 on the season, while Greg Porter & his Hillcrest Rams come into this contest 4-2. Greenville comes off of a 16-0 win over Greer while Blue Ridge comes off of a huge 49-13 win over Berea. The Tigers offense has been very good this season, but I think the Red Raiders will get it done this Friday.

Cole's Pick: Greenville 34, Blue Ridge 21

Woodruff at Union County: This is a huge region game as both of these teams have been very good as of late. Woodruff has been so good on offense, as have the Yellowjackets of Union. The Wolverines showed alot of grit last week after being down 14-0 to Newberry. I think this is a very high scoring game and whoever has the ball last could win this one. The Yellowjackets took care of Clinton last week, and have started region play off on a good note. I think the team who plays mistake free on Friday night will win. Union looks good in this game, but turns it over or has costly penalties and Woodruff pulls it out.

Cole's Pick: Woodruff 45, Union County 42

Easley at TL Hanna: These may be two teams that we didnt think were on the same playing field, but turns out they may be more even than we realize. Greenwood shocked much of the Upstate last week with a huge win over TL Hanna, while Easleycomes off two straight wins over JL Mann & Wade Hampton. I like TL Hanna to edge out the Green Wave, but not before Easley puts up a fight.

Cole's Pick: TL Hanna 42, Easley 28

Wade Hampton at Greenwood: Greenwood knocked off TL Hanna, and they will roll over Wade Hampton. The Generals are still looking for their first win of the season this Friday, but they will not get it. Greenwood has played much better as the season has progressed.

Cole's Pick: Greenwood 54, Wade Hampton 7

Westside at JL Mann: Westside has not had a good season, but neither have the Patriots of JL Mann. Someone has to win this game, and I think it will be Westside.

Cole's Pick: Westside 35, JL Mann 20
