Week 5 of High School football is behind us and what a week it was! I went 12-2 on the week putting me at 54-15 on the season. Here is where I went wrong;

Powdersville at Southside: I picked Southside to win and man, Powdersville lit up the scoreboard on Friday night defeating the Tigers 57-32.

Woodruff at Clinton: I picked the Wolverines to win this one and the Clinton Red Devils proved me wrong. Clinton defeated Woodruff 33-14 in a game that was dominated by the Red Devils.

Thoughts on Week 5:

1) Dorman defeated Spartanburg 21-0 in a game that did not live up to the Dorman-Spartanburg tradition, in my opinion. This game was on the boring side from a fans point of view; slow pace, neither team got going, multiple penalties, etc. Dorman essentially eliminated the Vikings from post-season contention as the Cavaliers are now one win away from winning Region II-AAAAA. My mind automatically goes to this; Will Dorman have trouble in the post season when they play a high powered offenese and the Cavaliers have to play in a shoot-out? The Cavaliers have had much success on the ground, but not much through the air. Friday's contest between Dorman & Byrnes is huge. More on that in my weekly picks article.

2) Despite taking a huge hit to graduation AND losing your coaching staff, Chapman is STILL the cream of the crop in 3A. Harry Cabaniss & the Panthers rolled the Broome Centurions on Saturday morning with a very impressive performance from Drew Settle. Chapman will have stiffer competition in the playoffs, but I am not picking against this Chapman team anymore this season. The Panthers are looking to make ANOTHER run to the State Championship.

3) Boiling Springs defeats Greenwood 27-24. I picked the Bulldogs in a close one, and that is what happened. This was a non-region game against Greenwood, but this was a tough test for both teams. Boiling Springs returned so much from last years team that it is proving to be very beneficial down the stretch of this season. I am very interested to see how the Bulldogs do in the playoffs. I think this is a team that will upset a 1 or 2 seed and make a run to the state championship.

4) Greenville will be the best AAAA team at home in the playoffs. Due to each region only getting two teams into the post-season, one really good team from that region would be left out and it happens to be the Greenville Red Raiders. Greenwood & Greer are in due to a tiebreaker scenairo that put Greenville on the outside looking in. I feel for Greg Porter & the Red Radiers. This is a very talented football team that will not have a chance to make a run.

Week 6 is here and I will have my weekly picks article out a day earlier than normal (Wednesday) due to the Broome Centurions hosting Emerald on Wednesday night. For updates on all thing high school football, follow me on Twitter @TheColeBryson.
