Week 5 of High School Football is here and it is time to look at this week's games.

Cole's Week 4 Record: 9-1

Overall Record: 38-11

Week 5 Games:

Boiling Springs at Dorman: Boiling Springs has been through the gauntlet as far as their competition goes in 2019. Rick Tate will have to have his best gameplan of the season in order to take down the Cavaliers on homecoming night this Friday. The Dorman defense has been known this season for holding teams to few points, and I am not sure that this Bulldog offense is capable of being a threat. I like Lee, Black, & this Dorman offense to move the ball and score at will. With Charles McFadden questionable for Boiling Springs, who will they rely on to be their workhorse?

Cole's Pick: Dorman 38, Boiling Springs 10

Byrnes at Gaffney: Gaffney has one loss on the season and that is to Mallard Creek, a team that went toe-to-toe with Dutch Fork earlier in the season. Also, the Indians are coming off of a close win over a gritty Mauldin team. Gaffney may be without two playmakers in Jemari Littlejohn & Stan Ellis. These would be two big losses for the Indians. Byrnes on the other hand is coming off of a big win over the Spartanburg Vikings, starting 1-0 in region play as well. Both teams are so talented, especially on the defensive side of the football. I think whichever team can limit their turnovers and have the best field position will win this game. I expect this to come down to the final minute.

Cole's Pick: Byrnes 28, Gaffney 21

Chapman at Eastside: This is an intriguing game to look at because of the two offenses. Chapman has been nothing but perfect this season on the offensive side of the football while Eastside has been very effecient as well. I think Chapman may have more weapons than Eastisde. Also, I do not think this Eastside defense has been tested at all. I like Eastside to keep it close for a quarter or so, but the Panthers will pull away.

Cole's Pick: Chapman 54, Eastside 28

Woodruff vs Open:

Union County vs Open:

Hillcrest at Spartanburg: The Spartanburg Vikings have a home. The new facilities will be showcased this Friday night as Hillcrest will be the first team to play the Vikings in the new stadium. Will there be distractions for the Vikings when it comes down to the game? I think that is a fair question, but I know that Chris Miller has not let his team get distracted and off-task as this Hillcrest team comes to town. Hillcrest is coming off of a not-so-close loss to Dorman while Spartanburg is coming off of a tough loss to Byrnes. Both teams are looking for their first region win of the 2019 season and I think this one will be very close. I am interested to see if Zay Foster goes for the Vikings after suffering a concussion last week. I think Hillcrest will be able to limit Spartanburg's offense, but will Spartanburg be able to hold the Rams down? I think this has the potential to be a very good game, but I like the Vikings to squak out a win.

Cole's Pick: Spartanburg 20, Hillcrest 17

Landrum at West Oak: The Cardinals are on a bit of a hot streak as of late, and I expect that to continue this week on the road versus West Oak. The Warrior's lone win on the season came on 9/13 when they defeated Dixie 35-6. I think the win over Chesnee last week was a big confidence boost for Landrum, and I expect Jason Farmer's squad to make it three in a row this Friday.

Cole's Pick: Landrum 41, West Oak 14

Greer vs Open:

Chesnee at Blacksburg: The Eagles have not had the start they wanted opening up the 2019 season 1-4, while Blacksburg has had an impressive 3-1 start. Andrew Jackson is the only loss so far this season for Blacksburg. I have been going back and forth all week with this game, and once again my pick has changed. Chesnee has lost games by such close scores, but have continued to struggle holding on to the football. I think Blacksburg may be the more talented team.

Cole's Pick: Blacksburg 35, Chesnee 21

Wren at Broome: The Centurions are coming off of a tough loss to Eastside, while the Wren Hurricanes are coming off of a 63-13 win over Clinton. The Hurricanes are 3-1 on the season while the Centurions are 2-3 under Lynn Fleming. Wren has a very high powered offense and recently Broome has struggled slowing down such offenses. I like Broome to score and move the ball Friday, but I think the Hurricanes are the better offense.

Cole's Pick: Wren 41, Broome 24

Woodmont at Wade Hampton: Woodmont just defeated Greenwood for the first time in program history. Wade Hampton has gotten off to a 0-4 start under first year HC Travis Miller. The Generals are still looking for their first win of the season and I do not believe they will get it this Friday. Woodmont has improved so much over the past few years led by Jet Turner and this "Jet" offense has been very effecient. Woodmont's only loss is to a very tough Hillcrest team. I think Woodmont is the better team and they improve to 4-1.

Greenville vs Open:

Brevard at Blue Ridge: The Tigers of Blue Ridge are 2-2 on the season coming off of a 41-20 loss to TR. This is the last non-region game for the Tigers and James Thurn before opening region play vs Berea. Brevard is off to a nice 4-1 start under Craig Pritchette and I think this is a close game Friday night.

Cole's Pick: Blue Ridge 35, Brevard 31

Travelers Rest vs Open:

You can listen to the Byrnes Rebels this Friday night on ESPN Upstate and tune into the Saturday Morning Scramble on Saturday from 8-10am with Cole Bryson & Jed Blackwell for a complete breakdown of all of the games from Friday night.
