High School Football Week 10

November 01, 2019 - 1:08 pm

The final week of High School Football is upon us and tonight will be the final game for some, but for others it will be the final game before the road to the State Championship begins.

Cole's Record:

Overall: 79-19
Last Week: 12-2

Gaffney @ Spartanburg: This is a huge game for the Spartanburg Vikings as they are hoping for the at-large bid to get themselves into the playoffs. With the addition of Stan Ellis back in the Gaffney lineup, the Indians have found an air attack as it showed last week against Boiling Springs. I think Gaffney is the much more talented team in this matchup and I expect Undre Lindsey to build off of the huge game he had last week vs Boiling Springs. Spartanburg will need an exceptional performance from Seth Smith & Co. to be competitive in this ballgame. I like to Gaffney to pull away in the second half.

Cole's Pick: Gaffney 43, Spartanburg 14

Byrnes @ Boiling Springs: If Byrnes was fully healthy, I would probably pick Byrnes to win this game by four touchdowns or so. However, the injury report for the Rebels is rather lengthy this week as they travel to Boiling Springs. More than half of the Byrnes defense will not start and a very key piece of the Byrnes offense is not expected to start either. Many second string Rebels will have to step up on Friday night and play well against a Boiling Springs team that is coming off of a huge loss to Gaffney. The Bulldog defense is giving up an average of 33 points per game. I expect the Byrnes offense to be too much once again for Boiling Springs as I expect to see guys like Kris Byrd, Mike Jenkins, Braylin Johnson, & Nana Burris to get alot of touches tonight. I like Byrnes to win comfortably.

Cole's Pick: Byrnes 39, Boiling Springs 20

Riverside @ Dorman: According to some of my sources at Dorman, the Cavaliers are taking a very different approach to tonight's game vs Riverside and are going to get alot of underclassmen playing time for the majority of the game. However, I do not think it will make much of a difference. I like Dorman big.

Cole's Pick: Dorman 42, Riverside 0

Greer @ Blue Ridge: Six weeks ago, I would of picked Blue Ridge to win this game and I would have been very confident in that pick. However, today I am going with Greer. The Yellowjackets have found something as of late and I expect Greer to build on that confidence and pick up a win tonight against a solid Blue Ridge team that also at times this season has been able to score at will. I think this one will be close in the first half, but I like Greer to pull away in the second half.

Cole's Pick: Greer 35, Blue Ridge 21

Chapman @ Chesnee: I have heard all week how Chesnee has a tough scheme and Chapman may struggle with their offensive scheme. I am just not buying it. This Chapman defense is well conditioned & I think they will be able to figure out the Eagle's tactics fairly quickly as long as they play assignment football. Chesnee will have no answer whatsoever for this Chapman offense. Colasurdo and the explosive weapons will give Chapman another big win this season.

Cole's Pick: Chapman 50, Chesnee 21

Emerald @ Union County: Emerald comes into this game 1-9 while Union County has been rolling through region play. I don't think there is much to say here. Union County has better players at every position and I think Union gets a big lead in the first half and you will see many clean jerseys in the second half for Brian Thompson's squad.

Cole's Pick: Union County 49, Emerald 15

Clinton @ Woodruff: The 4-5 Red Devils are looking to build on a win from last week and build on some momentum this week. The Red Devils are coming off of a 28-14 win over Emerald that puched themselves a playoff ticket. Woodruff did not have the best performance last week in a close win over Mid-Carolina so which Woodruff team shows up? I do know that the Wolverines are banged up, but I think they get things back on track and have a much better win this week.

Cole's Pick: Woodruff 38, Clinton 7

Southside Christian @ Landrum: The Cardinals are going to miss the playoffs this season, unless they can upset the Sabres this Friday night on Senior Night. I think this will be one of the toughest tasks yet for the Cardinals as they go up against the 8-1 Sabres of Southside Christian. Landrum has shown signs of potential success this season, but have not been able to put it all together. I really don't think this game will be close.

Cole's Pick: Southside Christian 48, Landrum 10

Woodmont @ TL Hanna: This is one of the tougher games to pick and this is a huge region game for both teams. Woodmont is coming off of a win over Easley, while TL Hanna comes off of a close loss to Laurens. I like this game to be very competitive but I do not know if Woodmont can go on the road and win this game. I like the Yellowjackets to escape with a win at home.

Cole's Pick: TL Hanna 24, Woodmont 21

Eastside @ Greenville: Probably the best game in the Upstate this week as these two high powered offenses face off in the region championship game. Greenville, led by Greg Porter has done an outstanding job this season leading his Red Raiders to a 7-2 record only dropping games to Woodmont & South Pointe. Eastside has one of the best Quarterbacks in the Upstate in rising star Marshall Skoloff. This one is so tough to pick as I think both offenses will be potent and the defense that steps up and makes the most plays of forces a turnover may be the team that prevails. I am going to lean with Greenville in this football game.

Cole's Pick: Greenville 47, Eastside 40

Mauldin at Hillcrest: On August 30th, the Hillcrest Rams won this ballgame by a score of 29-7. 63 days later, I would say that these two teams are much different than they were in late August. Mauldin has found success this season under Harry Cabaniss as they sit at 5-4 on the season. Hillcrest sits at 4-5 on the season coming off of a loss to Byrnes. Mauldin comes off of a 55-7 loss to Dorman. Both of these teams have had bright spots this season, but both have also struggled in certain areas. I think Mauldin has impovrec since that first non-region game and I like the Mavericks to win tonight.

Cole's Pick: Mauldin 21, Hillcrest 14

JL Mann at Greenwood: JL Mann comes off of their first win of the season last week over Wade Hampton, but I do not think the Patriots will find their second of the season this week. I lile Greenwood to advance and get to 6-4 on the season. Greenwood comes off of a loss to Westside last week so it will be interesting to see if the Patriots can use their momentum to their advantage.

Cole's Pick: Greenwood 28, JL Mann 7

Westside at Wade Hampton: The Generals of Wade Hampton are still looking for their first win of the season, but I do not think they will get it tonight on senior night. Westside has found some success as of late, and I think the Rams overpower the Generals tonight.

Cole's Pick: Westide 35, Wade Hampton 10

Carolina Academy at Southside: The Tigers of Southside are 4-4 on the season under Jeremy West and have had some serious adversity and injuries this season, but I think they get above .500 tonight as Carolina is just 1-8 on the season. I am rolling with the Tigers in this one.

Cole's Pick: Southside 35, Carolina 14
