It seems like just 5 or 6 weeks since we started this High School Football season. Oh wait, it was. A shortened season has come and we are nearing the final week of High School Football in South Carolina. It is Week 6.

Even with the craziness of this season, we still have been able to witness some very good teams and some pretty incredible story lines. I look at teams who have the potential to make a run to the state championship like Boiling Springs; a team that brought back a truck load of experience. Chapman, a team that lost a huge senior class as well as their coaching staff and still hasn't missed a beat. Greer, a team with incredible talent across the board. Southside Christian, who may dominate the 1-A ranks for years to come. Gaffney, who has one of their most experienced teams under Dan Jones in quite a few years. Dorman, who returned a great senior class that has State Championship experience. Byrnes, a team who returned very few starters on both sides of the ball. With all of these storylines, there still remains one unknown. COVID-19. How will the post-season look with the SCHSL not allowing the post-season schedule to be flexible? Will teams have to forfeit their season due to a positive test? While 2020 has brought craziness & unstability across the board, we are still thankful to have the game of football that we all love.

I went 12-2 with my picks last week and am now sitting at 54-15 on the season. Let's make some picks for this week!

Emerald at Broome (Wednesday, 10/28): This one will be a interesting game with all of the rain in the Upstate. Also, a short turn around for Broome having just played on Saturday. I picked Broome earlier this week as I was going through these, but the more I think about it, I am going with Emerald on the road. This may be a very low scoring game if the weather gets nasty. Emerald 21, Broome 14.

Byrnes at Dorman: This game was supposed to be played earlier in October, but the Rebels were sidelined for three weeks due to an internal positive Covid-19 test as well as Wade Hampton having to quarentine. It is the region championship. Every season, each team has this goal in the back of their mind. Win the region. These two teams are no stranger of winning the region as Dorman, Byrnes, & Gaffney all won in 2018 in a three-way tie. I am not going to break down this game much here as I will be releasing a Byrnes-Dorman preview later this week that will go more in depth with these two teams. This is a monster game with two teams who like to run the football. Check out my article coming later this week for my full breakdown as well as my pick for this game.

Greer at Boiling Springs: Another non-region game for Boiling Springs as they face a tough Greer team who happens to be the region champion. Boiling Springs beat a very good Greenwood team last week on the road and I expect the Bulldogs to keep it rolling this week but it will not be easy. Greer will be a tough test for the Boiling Springs defense will plentiful weapons on offense, but I like the Bulldog secondary to prevail. The matchup of Miller DeArmond against that Bulldog secondary will be the matchup to watch. I am rolling with the DAWGS! Boiling Springs 40, Greer 24.

Ninety Six at Chesnee: Chesnee has been the warm knife, their opponets have been the butter. All season long the Eagles have rolled. I expect much of the same from Clay Lewis & the region champions on Friday. I like the Eagles 30-14 over Ninety Six

Landrum at Christ Church: Landrum had a dissapointing season and fell short of the playoffs, but I do not think the Cardinals will roll over. Christ Church is a tough place to play and has been for Landrum in the past. The Cavaliers have only one loss on the season and I think they will be too much for Landrum to handle this Friday. Cardinals fight until the end, but come up short. Cavaliers 33, Cardinals 24.

Riverside at Spartanburg: Riverside is a much improved team and Erie Williams has this team going in the right direction but the Vikings will be too tough to tame. Spartanburg fell short of the post-season, but there is still plenty of talent on this Viking team. If Raheim Jeter plays, I expect the Vikings offense to look like it did against Wade Hampton and the Vikings will have no trouble on Friday. Riverside will get their points, but the Vikings come out on top. Spartanburg 49, Riverside 21.

Clinton at Union County: Union County 30, Clinton 28.

Westside at TL Hanna: Two really good football teams going at it this week! I am really looking forward to following this game on Friday as I think this will be one of the most competitive games in the area. Westisde is a heck of a football team that had yet to experience a loss this season. TL Hanna is in the same boat and this is a clash of two of the best teams in the Upstate. I think this game is a toss up as I could see either team winning. I am going to go with the Yellowjackets in a close one. TL Hanna 35, Westside 31.

Walhalla at Travelers Rest: Travelers Rest 29, Walhalla 20.

Greenwood at Hillcrest: Hillcrest has had a great season and I think is the better team here. Greenwood will play hard coming off of a loss to Boiling Springs. Hillcrest 37, Greenwood 28.

Wade Hampton at Greenville: Greenville may be playing with something to prove here after not making the playoffs. In my opinion, one of the best teams that will not make the post season. Greenville 49, Wade Hampton 17.

Mauldin at Ridge View: Ridge View 31, Mauldin 18.

Blue Ridge at Eastside: Blue Ridge 28, Eastside 21.

Blacksburg at Southside: Southside 34, Blacksburg 14.
