"We have gotten bigger, faster, and stronger," says Reggie Shaw of Byrnes.

Friday night, the Byrnes Rebels take on the Greer Yellowjackets to open up the 2019 season. Byrnes leads the series with the Yellowjackets 30-26-1. In 2018, the Rebels defeated Greer 39-26, before the Yellowjackets went on to be eventual Upper State Champions, representing the upstate in Williams Brice Stadium. "We know Greer is very well coached." says Shaw. "They know how to win and compete. They have great athletes and they always play us well." Will Young is the Greer coach, and always finds sucess in their offesmvie counters, draws, and screens.

Byrnes has 13 starters returning from the 2018 season.

Lawerence Scott is one of those. "Lawerence has matured alot. He has grown and shown that. We ask out quarterback to be a great decision maker and he has done just that." Reggie Shaw on the importance of his team captain. "His leadership is his best quality. He is a natural leader and is tough. When we need two yards, he isnt afraid to put his head down and go get those two yards. He can help us with his feet so he just brings alot to the table. Dual threat kind of guy."

Offensively this is the biggest line Shaw has had at Byrnes. "They have dominated in the run game in the preseason and have helped us in the passing game as well. When we are clicking, you have to truly defend the whole field. We have alot of talent and our coaches have done a great job."

Fred Cross serves as the DC for the Rebels. Shaw was asked what his best attribute is defensively. "Speed. My guys love to fly around and they come with a bad attitude when they get there."

The Rebels have a Byrd on both sides of the ball. TE, #44 Kris Byrd shares the field with his brother, #6 Josh Byrd (DE). Shaw praised the two highly. "These are blue collar guys. They come to work everyday and never complain. They leave practice and go work a job until late at night. They are great guys and it is what football is all about and both of them get to go play at the next level."

Tune in Friday at 7:00pm as the Byrnes Rebels take on the Greer Yellowjackets to open the 2019 season.
