As several teams from across the Upstate are traveling through the season of passing leauges, Byrnes gets set to host the Palmetto State Showdown on June 28th & June 29th. Twenty teams will be participating in the 7 on 7 next weekend on the campus of Byrnes High School; at the soccer field and at Nixon Field.

"Byrnes will have two teams in the tournament (A & B) and will be taking on the likes of Spartanburg, Boiling Springs, Fort Dorchester, Oceanside Collegiate, and several other quality opponets", says Reggie Shaw of Byrnes. "This event and other passing leauges helps us get better and be more prepared against quality teams and quality people."

The Rebels have put in many miles this summer competing in Knoxville & Columbia, going a combined 11-2 in both tournaments. "These really benefit the offense more than anything, but also has drawbacks as well. If you are not careful, these can put your linebackers in a bad habit of playing the pass first. It is good for the defensive backs to get reps during these tournaments as well to more understand different concepts and different reads," says Shaw.

Pool Play will begin on Friday at 5:00pm as Byrnes battles Travelers Rest, Fort Dorchester faces Easley, Wren takes on Mauldin, and Oceanside takes on Clover. These will go through 10:00pm on Friday evening before a quick turnaround at 9:00am on Saturday. The final tournament begins at 1:30pm on Saturday, with the championship game taking place around 4:00pm.

After the Showdown is completed, we will be just fifty-five days from kickoff when the Byrnes Rebels travel to Greer to open the 2019 season.
