High School Sports Delayed

The South Carolina High School League conducted an online meeting Wednesday to vote on a proposal to delay the start of high school fall sports. 

The State newspaper in Columbia reports the High School League Executive Committee voted 14 to 2 approving a proposal that would delay the start of fall sports to September 1 at the earliest and as late as October 2. 

Teams would play region games first, with the possibility of adding non-region games later in the season.  The start of practices would delayed from July 30 to August 17. 

The meeting did not address winter or spring sports and concentrated only on the fall sports of football, girls tennis, girls golf, swimming and volleyball.
