The South Carolina Gamecocks got blanked 28-0 in the Belk Bowl by the Virginia Cavaliers.

Virginia racked up over 400 yards of total offense on the Gamecocks, 205 of which came on the ground.

The Gamecock’s defense has struggled all year, but their offense has bailed them out several times throughout the season. That was not the case Saturday afternoon.

Missed opportunities, lack of execution, and terrible miscues prevented the Gamecocks from getting into any sort of rhythm.

Virginia on the other hand, looked poised, focused, and well prepared.

The Cavaliers dominated the time of possession, holding onto the ball for over 42 minutes. That, combined with converting 11 of 17 3rd downs, allowed Virginia to run away with the game.

Ideally by the time teams get to bowl season, all their training and experience are coming together to help them perform at their highest ability. The Gamecocks arrived to bowl season looking out of sync and at times overwhelmed.

Virginia wrapped up their season with their first bowl win since 2005, and their future looks bright.

The Gamecock enters the offseason with many questions looming about the future of their coach and their quarterback.

South Carolina will open the 2019 season in Charlotte against the UNC Tar Heels on August 31st, 2019.
