Luis Severino's season appears to be over before it started.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that Tommy John surgery has been recommended for the pitcher. The New York Times' James Wagner reported, citing a person familiar with the situation, that the right-hander plans to move forward with the procedure.

The Yankees shut down Severino last week due to soreness in his right forearm. The two-time All-Star was sent to New York this week to undergo a battery of tests on the arm.
