PHILADELPHIA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Police are investigating a claim that Flyers mascot Gritty assaulted a 13-year-old boy during a photo shoot, according to a report from our brother station in Philadelphia, KYW.

The incident allegedly happened in November at the Wells Fargo Center, where the Flyers play.

According to Chris Greenwell, a season-ticket holder with the Flyers, the Flyers mascot punched his son in the back of the head during a photo opportunity with Gritty.

Greenwell tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that his son patted the mascot on the head who then “took a running start" and “punched” the 13-year-old.

Greenwell says the incident resulted in a back bruise, according to a chiropractor.

Greenwell also told the Inquirer he took the alleged incident to police in late December after an agreement couldn’t be reached between Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Flyers, and Greenwell.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

The Flyers have released a statement saying they have not found any evidence to support Greenwell's claim.
