Alabama and Clemson will meet in the College Football Playoffs for the fourth year in a row, and the third time for the National Championship.

Every year it seems like as soon as a College Football Champion is crowned, speculation and predictions swirl as to who will play in next seasons championship game. Most of the time these predictions end up incorrect.

For the better part of the last decade it has been almost safe to assume Alabama would be one of the two teams playing for it all, but projecting the team that would play Alabama has been a tough call for analysts.

This season was different.

The moment after Alabama scored their walk-off touchdown against the Georgia bulldogs to claim the 2017 National Championship, analyst and commentators took to twitter to project the Crimson Tides return to the 2018 championship game.

They also, by-and-large, projected the Clemson Tigers to contest Alabama for the Championship for the 3rd time in 4 seasons.

Now we are less than a week away from exactly what fans and experts expected and wanted: Alabama vs Clemson round 4.

Alabama may no longer be the only dynasty in college football. Clemson, regardless of Monday night’s outcome, has joined Alabama at the top. These two programs have become the gold standard in college football.

Alabama has ruled college football for the last decade, winning 6 SEC titles and 5 national championships since 2009.

But the Tigers aren’t too far behind the Crimson Tide. Over the last four seasons Clemson has dominated the ACC, boasting 4 straight ACC titles, a 34-2 record against conference teams, 4 straight College Football Playoff appearances, and a National Title.

Monday Night is not just a battle between two great teams, it is a collision between two dynasties.

A win for Alabama would further widen the gap between them and any other program in college football, and would make them one of the greatest dynasties in the history of sports.

A win for Clemson could usher in a new era in college football, and would force those who choose to ignore Clemson’s dominance to accept them as a true power house in college football.

ESPN Upstate‘s exclusive coverage of the College Football Playoffs continues Monday, January 7th, at 3pm.
